There will be plenty who remember Huun-Huur-Tu’s appearance way back at Druga Godba 96, which was the first time we properly encountered the glories of Siberian throat-singing.

Now, nearly 30 years later, we’re going to travel further east, from Tuva to Buryatia, and feast on the work of these equally intriguing musicians.

Alexander Arkhincheev has embarked on a number of long tours through Europe with his band Shono, but we’re even more taken with his collaboration with the fantastic Lithuanian singer Laurita Peleniūtė (they will also hold a vocal workshop the day before the concert). Together they have created a quartet and recorded an album, which they will play live at this year’s festival.

UDU spans two nations, bringing together the musical heritages of Buryatia and Lithuania. Throat singing is connected to Baltic song from pagan times, so expect an evening of ancient mystery on the edge of the Ljubljana forest.
