35 th Druga Godba in Ljubljana and Maribor

35th International Druga Godba Festival 21–25 May 2019

The Druga Godba team are, with great pleasure and a certain amount of healthy impatience, putting the finishing touches to the programme for the 35th international Druga Godba festival, which will take place in Ljubljana and Maribor between 21 and 25 May next year. We are giving our loyal and new followers a special New Year’s offer in the form of a limited number of Early Bird tickets at the single price of EUR 42, which includes free return coach travel from Ljubljana to Maribor. This ticket gives entry to every concert at the festival, which will take place at five venues in Ljubljana and two venues in Maribor. Druga Godba 2019 will feature at least 15 artists of different genres of music stretching from the north of Europe to the south of Africa, with wonderful views across the Atlantic as well.

Visitors to this 35th edition of the festival will not have to move from venue to venue, except on Friday night, when we are planning a short musical excursion from Vodnikova Domačija to Kino Šiška. The venues for specific days will include Channel Zero at Metelkova, Štihova Dvorana and Klub CD at Cankarjev Dom, Klub Božidar in the basement of the Slovenian Youth Theatre, the outdoor stage at Vodnikova Domačija, the Katedrala and Komuna stages at Kino Šiška, and the Minorite Chapel and Auditorium of Maribor Puppet Theatre, where the festival finale will be held on Saturday 25 May. The festival day in Maribor will be organised in partnership with Narodni Dom in Maribor; together with the puppet theatre, they will be bringing Druga Godba to Slovenia’s second city for the very first time.

Of course, we shouldn’t forget our faithful co-producers in Ljubljana, Kino Šiška, with whom we will be curating the programme for Friday 24 May on the Katedrala and Komuna stages, and Cankarjev Dom, which will be hosting an international conference, Jazz Connective, in addition to concerts in Štihova Dvorana and Klub CD. The conference is a project involving seven organisations from seven partner cities (Lyon, London, Birmingham, Dublin, Helsinki, Lodz and Ljubljana). It was awarded funds by the Creative Europe programme and we are very proud to include it in the festival programme. Artists from the partner cities will occupy several venues from 21 to 23 May, with the conference proper taking place over one full day, 22 May.

We are planning to publish the full line-up of festival artists in the middle of January, which is when day tickets will be released for sale.

The Druga Godba international festival is supported by the Ministry of Culture on the basis of programme co-funding of the work of Zavod Druga Godba. The City of Ljubljana are supporting festival organisation and execution as part of a project-based co-funding arrangement.
