Druga Godba are proud to announce the first names to be appearing in Piran. Like last year, the main event will take place in the wonderful old Monfort salt warehouse. The party will kick off on Thursday 24 May with concerts by Dirtmusic and Alsarah & The Nubatones.
Dirtmusic will be bringing their voracious musical soul to Druga Godba exactly eight years after their last appearance at the festival with Tamikrest. Starting out as a trio playing intense blues, thoughtful country and raw folk rock, each successive record has delved deeper and deeper into uncharted dimensions of the musical landscape; and with each new political turn in the global political psyche, their music has become darker and more intense. In January, they released Bu Bir Ruya, a collaboration with Murat Ertel from visionary psychedelicists Baba Zula, to rave reviews. The album was recorded in Istanbul under darkening domestic and global skies, and it navigates between hypnotic rhythms and widescreen atmospherics shot through with (Turkish) psychedelia, post-punk, funk, rock and electronic beats. This current incarnation of Dirtmusic – Chris Eckman, Hugo Race, Murat Ertel and Ümit Adakale – is perhaps its most thrilling yet.
Dirtmusic – Bi De Sen Söyle:
Alongside Dirtmusic will be Alsarah & The Nubatones, a band born of an intense love for Nubian music. Working from the pentatonic scale, Alsarah & The Nubatones mix the sounds of the 70s with original material and the traditional music of Central Sudan, creating East African retro pop in Nubian and Sudanese styles.
