Holden is perhaps best known as one of the<br \/>\nworld\u2019s most innovative trance producers. His new project, however, which he\u2019s dubbed \u2018folk<br \/>\ntrance\u2019, sees him lead a band for the first time. These tropical psychedelic<br \/>\neccentrics situate their sound at the meeting point of Andres Landero\u2019s dark cumbia, Konono\u2019s<br \/>\ntwisted trance and Ceramic Dog\u00b4s sophisticated rawness, with a hefty dose of tropical Afrobeat and<br \/>\nan out-of- control computer thrown in for good measure. Hailing from Colombia, Los Pira\u00f1as are<br \/>\nnothing if not eclectic, with other South American genres, such as Vallenato, Peruvian chicha,<br \/>\nColombian raspa and champeta, jostling for headspace with cumbia in all its forms. It all slips down<br \/>\nvery easily with the help of rock, improvisation and an absurd musical humour.
