This mini-programme will kick off on Thursday with one of the most popular features of any Druga Godba supporting programme: the dance workshop. This one will be devoted to sabar, a dance and music tradition associated with the Wolof and Serer peoples of Senegal that uses traditional drums as a central means of communicating and making music. The workshop will be led by Sophie ‘Sabar’, dance anthropologist and rhythm specialist who has been researching and teaching the sabar tradition for more than two decades.

The workshop is free but you must register in advance via >>>application form<<<.

Friday will see a concert at Klub Gromka by musicians from Orchestre Jigeen Ñi, a group that travels far beyond the bounds of musical activity to serve as a vital platform for the empowerment of women in the Senegalese music scene.

The event is free of charge.
