A successful application for four-year programme funding from the Ministry of Culture has enabled us to set sail once again and make for new musical adventures of the kind our audiences have come to expect over the last 42 years. This year the wind is even stronger and our speed easily a match for the best eight-metre yachts with the most skilled captains – all the better since the festival will weigh anchor in the Norwegian Sea, cross the Atlantic, take in the Mediterranean sun and finally dock somewhere between the islands of Madagascar and Réunion in the Indian Ocean, all in the space of four days. On our journey from (roughly) north to south, we will feast on some of the hottest sounds in global music that are currently stirring spirits locally, and thrilling club and festival audiences internationally.
Futuristic Neapolitan folk, Indonesian psychedelic groove, next-generation Portuguese fado, West African guitar traditions, Welsh triple-harp avant-folk, clubwise mutations from the Arab world – these are just a few of the musical delights that await you, delivered by talents who are keen to premiere their latest albums before Ljubljana’s famously knowledgeable audiences.

As always though, Druga Godba is not just about concerts. This year’s festival will provide a vital space for reflections on the future of the music industry and the vulnerability of musicians – as the festival’s graphic theme tries to reflect. From this comes this year’s slogan, ‘Live Music’, which wittily ties itself to the central graphic motif while stressing Druga Godba’s commitment to original and independent music and its presentation in unique, immediate, live concert settings.
So please jump aboard and join us for a four-day live music voyage that might very well turn out to be one of the highlights of your year.
Long live Live Music!
Bogdan Benigar
Head of the Druga Godba Programme Committee
